光発電時計開発40周年の節目に「時計の本質とは何か」を自ら問い質し開発された時計です。薄さ 1.00mmの時計駆動装置には、85個もの部品が隙間なく配置されています。その比類なき薄さのムーブメントを内包する時計本体も、最薄モデルでは2.98mm（設計値）を実現しました。モデルAR5064はその中でも薄さと防水性（5気圧）の両立を目指して開発しています。光がある限り時を刻み続ける永続的な駆動と、腕に着けた時の美しいフォルムと究極の着け心地。それを腕時計の本質的な価値として、驚きと身に纏う喜びを提案しています。シチズンのクラフトマンシップを象徴するシリーズです。

腕は自身を象徴する一等地である一方、激しく動作する箇所なため、ほんの1mmの出っ張りが気になってしまう「主張と制約のトレードオフ」に悩まされる箇所であり、そのデザインは極めて難しい。Eco-Drive Oneはそんなトレードオフに対する直球のチャレンジである。わずか1mmのムーブメントという薄さの限界にチャレンジしながら細部に様々な施しがなされている。感嘆のため息が出るような美しい製品である。

The watch developed for the 40th anniversary of CITIZEN’s light-powered watch production was created by asking ourselves: what is the essence of a watch? Inside the 1.00 mm thin movement, as many as 85 parts are tightly arranged. The casing containing such unparalleled thin movement achieved 2.98 mm thinness (designed value) for the thinnest model. The model AR5064 was particularly developed to accommodate both thinness and waterproof property (5 atm). The permanent movement that keeps ticking as long as there is light, and the exquisite form with ultimate fitting on the wrist, are offered as the essential values of watches. Through such qualities, we offer the amazement and joy of wearing watches. This series embodies the craftsmanship of CITIZEN.

While our arms may be one of the most distinct parts of the body that represents ourselves, they also move very frequently. It is where a mere one-millimeter projection of a watch can irritate us, where we agonize over the tradeoff between expression and constraint, and extremely hard to design. Eco-Drive One is a straightforward challenge to such issues. The product pursued the thinness of the movement down to one millimeter, while also refining the designs in detail. It is a breathtakingly beautiful product.
