An indigo-colored wooden case was selected as the medal case for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Wood has always been a material familiar to the Japanese, and the indigo color and the round design correspond to the Olympic and Paralympic emblems. It adopts domestically produced Japanese ash wood, and is carefully finished by craftsmen using the advanced woodworking techniques of Japan. The different grain patterns of each piece symbolize the diversity in the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Material and Design Resistant to Environmental Changes
Medal cases are to be brought back with the medals, to countries and regions with various climatic conditions, to be stored carefully. Thus, the case is designed to resist dimensional changes and deterioration due to temperature and humidity.

The case can hold not only the medal but also the ribbon and the commemorative pin. It is meticulously designed to store all components compactly without damaging nor moving them inside the case. It is also possible to display the case by letting it stand by itself. A magnet allows the circular lid and the body to open like a connected ring, realizing display with the medal itself remaining in the case. The indigo color of the case enhances the brilliance of the medal and makes the medal case a lifelong memento for the athlete.
