E261系は、「大人のIZU 本物のIZU」をコンセプトとし、東京/新宿ー伊豆急下田間を運行する全車グリーン車の車両です。車両の先頭から後方へつながるラインを特徴としたエクステリアデザインとし、伊豆の自然をモチーフにカラーリングしました。全車に天窓を設置し、開放的な車内空間を演出するとともに、バックシェルの座席でくつろぎの空間を実現するプレミアムグリーン車、プライベートに過ごせるグリーン車個室、景色を眺めながらお食事を楽しめるカフェテリアなど、様々な魅力を持つ車内空間としています。移動空間を快適で優雅にお楽しみいただけるようにデザインしました。

2020年3月運行開始

「スーパービュー踊り子号」以来30年ぶりの新特急車両である。フランス語で「サファイヤ」を意味する「サフィール（Saphir）」の名を冠する車両デザインは、深いブルーのボディカラーと全車両の天窓が印象的。プレミアムグリーン、グリーン個室、カフェテリアなど、「上質で優雅な旅」を実現する明るく開放的な空間デザインの車両で構成される。流麗なフォルムの外観デザインは、伊豆の景色に映えて美しい。

Based on the concept “the mature IZU, the real IZU," the series E261 trains operate between Tokyo/Shinjuku and Izukyu-Shimoda with Green Car seating throughout all cars of the train. The exterior design features lines stretching from the front to the rear, and the color scheme is inspired by Izu’s natural landscape. All cars have skylights to create an open feel in the interior, while each of the seating variations has its charm: Premium Green Cars offer comfort with back shell-type seats, Green Car private compartments assure privacy throughout the travel, and the cafeteria serves meals while enjoying the view. The design is aimed to entertain passengers while traveling in comfort and elegance.

As the first limited express train in 30 years since the Super View Odoriko, the train is named with the French word saphir (that is, sapphire), with impressive car design with deep blue body and skylights. The bright and open spaces of Premium Green Cars, Green Car private compartments, and cafeteria are designed to provide high-quality and elegant travel. The exterior’s sleek design is picturesque in the scenery of Izu.
